How Tailr handles your resume, applications, and account.
Last updated: September 11, 2026
The short version
Your resume, applications, and cover letters stay on this device — the Chrome profile you use Tailr in. They aren't uploaded, backed up, or synced across your devices. When you tailor a resume, the text of your resume and the job posting are sent to the AI provider that generates the suggestions, then discarded. We store your email address (from Google sign-in) and how much tailoring you've used. That's it.
What stays on your device
The following is stored only in the browser profile where you installed Tailr. Nothing here is uploaded to us or shared with any third party.
- Your original resume (.docx file and its parsed contents)
- Every tailored resume file you've generated
- Every cover letter you've written
- Your saved applications, their statuses, and notes
- Your preferences (name, tone setting, and other in-app choices)
- A short-lived Google authentication token, cached in the extension's local storage for up to 30 minutes and cleared when you sign out
What we store on our server
What passes through our server (not stored)
When you tailor a resume, we send the following to the AI provider that generates suggestions:
- The text content of your resume
- The text of the job posting
- Your tone preference
This is required for the AI to generate suggestions. The AI provider processes the request and returns the suggestions. We do not retain this content after the request is complete, and we do not use it to train any model.
Third parties
Tailr uses two external services:
Google handles your sign-in. When you sign in, we receive your email address and a unique Google account identifier. We do not receive your Google password. Google's own privacy policy governs their handling of your data: policies.google.com/privacy.
Groq
Groq is the AI provider that generates tailoring suggestions. When you tailor a resume, the text of your resume and the job posting are sent to Groq. Groq processes the request and returns the suggestions. Groq's privacy policy: groq.com/privacy-policy.
Tailr does not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it for any purpose other than providing the service.
How to delete your data
You can delete your data at any time:
- Reset this device — in Tailr's Profile tab, clears your resume, applications, and preferences from this browser. Your account and credit balance are preserved.
- Delete my account — in Tailr's Profile tab, deletes your account on the server (including your email, cover letters, and credit balance) and signs you out. This cannot be undone.
After account deletion, we retain a one-way SHA-256 hash of your account identifier so that abuse prevention (repeated sign-up-and-delete cycles for free credits) can be enforced. This hash cannot be reversed to identify you.
Google Limited Use disclosure
Tailr's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use Google sign-in only to identify your account, and we do not transfer this data to third parties except as necessary to provide the service.
Extension permissions
Tailr requests the following browser permissions, and this is what each is for:
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and update the "Last updated" date. Substantive changes will also be surfaced in the extension itself so you see them before you continue using Tailr.
